Word Sharing Circle (WSC) Reflection Guide

February 8, 2026 (Cycle A, Year II) – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Community Word: Being renewed in God’s righteousness leads us to know, love and serve Him.

Theme: We are renewed in God’s righteousness when we are the light that leads others to Christ.

Promise: “Light shall rise for you in darkness.” (Is 58:10b)

Reflection

Jesus reveals Himself as the Light of the world, the One who illumines our path and gives direction to our lives. He declares, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Jn 8:12). To follow Jesus, the Light, is to walk in truth – a truth that leads to fullness of life. In Him, there is no darkness. As we choose to follow Him faithfully, we are renewed in God’s righteousness and become instruments of His light that lead others to Christ. To live in His light is to live in holiness, freed from the pain and confusion brought about by sin and error.

Concretely, those who walk in the light are people who truly love, not only in words, but more importantly, in deeds. As disciples of Christ, we are called to be heralds of His Good News. This mission is not accomplished by our own strength or human wisdom, but by relying on the power of God through the Holy Spirit working in and through us – through our words, our actions, and our witness.

To be salt of the earth and light of the world, we must remain closely united with the Source, who is God Himself, love and mercy. Only by abiding in Him can our lives reflect His goodness. Perseverance in the pursuit of holiness is the antidote to today’s ultramodern world, which increasingly leads people toward alienation from God. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. Holiness is the conformity of our will to the will of God. And God’s will is clear: to love Him with all our heart, mind, and strength, and to love one another as He loves us. When this love is lived out, darkness is dispelled, and light shines forth like the morning star. Love and charity are the unmistakable marks of God’s presence in our lives. Through them, our very presence in the community becomes a powerful testimony that draws others toward a Christian way of life. In this way, we become authentic witnesses of the Gospel of Love.

God assures us of His promise: “Light shall rise for you in darkness” (Is 58:10b). This promise speaks powerfully to our present time, marked by moral confusion, individualism, and indifference. Each of us is called to be part of God’s transforming work in the world, beginning with personal conversion. As we reform our lives and align our will with God’s will, we are gradually transformed to become more like Jesus Christ, in whom the Father is well pleased. United with Christ, we offer to God our lives as a humble sacrifice of praise, giving Him the glory that He alone deserves.

Prayer

Dear Lord, form us according to Your will. Make us truly the salt of the earth and the light of the world in our time. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, touch hearts and lead all to conversion to the Gospel. May our witness inspire sincere repentance and a life of virtue, pleasing to You. Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.

Reflection Guide Questions

1. In what concrete ways have I been an instrument of God’s light, bringing positive change to the lives of others?

2. How have I recently responded to the needs of those around me with compassion and generosity?
