HOLY WEEK

Word Sharing Circle (WSC) Reflection Guide

March 29, 2026 (Cycle A, Year II) – Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Community Word: Jesus, our Light and Life, transforms us into the fullness of salvation.

Theme: We are transformed towards salvation as we share in the sacrificial love of Christ Jesus.

Promise: “He humbled himself…because of this, God greatly exalted him…” Phil 2:8A, 9A

Reflection:

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Church’s liturgical calendar. The readings lead us to contemplate both the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the suffering that follows. The same crowd that welcomed Him with palms and shouts of “Hosanna” would later cry out, “Crucify Him.” In this contrast, we see the depth of Christ’s sacrificial love and the path of transformation that leads to salvation.

Our theme reminds us that we are transformed towards salvation as we share in the sacrificial love of Christ Jesus. The journey of Jesus into Jerusalem is not a path toward earthly glory but toward the Cross. He willingly embraces suffering, humiliation, and rejection out of obedience to the Father and love for humanity. This reveals that true transformation is rooted in humility, obedience, and self-giving love. Salvation is not achieved through power or recognition but through surrender and sacrifice.

The prophet Isaiah speaks of the Suffering Servant who remains steadfast despite persecution: “I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.” This reflects the unwavering determination of Jesus to fulfill the Father’s will. He does not turn away from suffering but embraces it as part of His redemptive mission. Likewise, St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians presents the humility of Christ, who “emptied himself” and became obedient even to death on a cross. This deep act of self-emptying love becomes the model for our covenantal discipleship.

Following Christ means allowing His sacrificial love to shape our attitudes and actions. Transformation happens when we choose self-giving, forgiveness, and obedience. These choices may involve sacrifice – letting go of pride, enduring misunderstandings, serving even when it is difficult, and remaining faithful amid trials. Yet these are the very moments where we share in the Cross of Christ and grow in holiness.

Palm Sunday invites us to examine the depth of our discipleship. It is easy to welcome Jesus when He brings blessings, but true commitment is revealed when we follow Him even through suffering. The Passion narrative shows us that Jesus remained faithful despite betrayal, denial, abandonment, and injustice. His love did not waver. In the same way, we are called to remain steadfast in our covenant with the Lord, trusting that every sacrifice offered in love participates in His saving work.

The promise given to us affirms our faith: “He humbled himself… because of this, God greatly exalted him,” (Phil 2:8A, 9A). Christ’s humiliation led to exaltation, and His suffering led to glory. This promise assures us that sacrifices offered in union with Christ are never wasted. When we embrace humility, serve generously, and remain faithful in trials, God transforms our suffering into grace and leads us toward the fullness of salvation.

As we enter Holy Week, let us walk with Jesus in His Passion. May we not only wave palms in praise but also carry the Cross in love. By sharing in His sacrificial love, we are transformed and prepared to share in the victory of His resurrection.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You entered Jerusalem in humility and embraced the Cross out of love for us. Teach us to follow You in sacrificial love. Give us the grace to choose humility over pride, forgiveness over resentment, and service over self-interest. Strengthen us to remain faithful in times of sacrifice and difficulty. As we walk with You this Holy Week, transform our hearts so that we may share in the fullness of Your salvation. Amen.

Reflection Guide Questions:

1. In what concrete ways is the Lord inviting me to practice sacrificial love through humility, forgiveness, and service this Holy Week?2. How can I remain faithful to Christ when discipleship requires sacrifice, discomfort, or letting go of my personal preferences?
