Reflection
Our theme this week tells us – We are nourished by Jesus, the Living Bread, to courageously testify to the truth of who He is. As we continue to reflect on Jesus as the Living Bread who nourishes His people, this Sunday's readings remind us that the Eucharist not only sustains our spiritual life but also strengthens us to become courageous witnesses of Christ in the world. Those who are nourished by Jesus cannot remain passive disciples. They are called to proclaim, through their words and actions, the truth of who He is.
The first reading presents the prophet Jeremiah, who suffered ridicule, rejection, and persecution because he faithfully proclaimed God's message. Surrounded by opposition and betrayal, Jeremiah experienced fear and discouragement. Yet he remained steadfast because he trusted that the Lord was with him. His confidence was not rooted in his own strength but in God's faithful presence. Jeremiah's experience mirrors the challenges that many Christians face today when living and defending Gospel values in environments that may be indifferent or even hostile to faith.
In the Gospel, Jesus prepares His disciples for the reality that following Him will involve difficulties and opposition. Yet three times He tells them not to be afraid. The Lord assures them that they are precious in the Father's eyes and that nothing escapes God's loving care. Jesus does not promise a life free from trials, but He promises His presence and protection amid them. He invites His disciples to place their trust in God rather than in human approval or acceptance.
This message speaks powerfully to us as members of the BLD Community. We live in a world where faith is often challenged by secular values, moral compromise, and fear of rejection. At times, we may hesitate to speak about Christ, defend our beliefs, or openly live our covenant commitment. Fear of criticism, misunderstanding, or inconvenience can tempt us to remain silent. Yet every time we receive Jesus, the Living Bread, in the Eucharist, He nourishes us with His own life and strengthens us with His grace. Through Him, we receive the courage to witness faithfully wherever He has placed us—in our families, workplaces, ministries, and communities.
As we respond to the Lord's call this week, let us ask for the courage to acknowledge Jesus openly through our words, decisions, and way of life. When we remain faithful despite challenges, we become living testimonies of God's love and truth. May we take comfort in the Lord's promise that our fidelity will never go unnoticed, for “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father” (Mt 10:32). This assurance strengthens us to persevere in faith, knowing that our witness today bears eternal significance in God's Kingdom.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for nourishing us with Jesus, the Living Bread. Strengthen our hearts whenever fear, doubt, or opposition discourages us from witnessing to our faith. Fill us with the courage of Jeremiah and the confidence of the disciples who trusted in Your presence. May our words, actions, and way of life boldly proclaim Jesus as Lord. Help us to remain faithful to our covenant commitment and to bring Your love and truth to those around us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
