Word Sharing Circle Reflection Guide
November 16, 2025 (Cycle C, Year I) – 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Community Word: We live with hope for eternal life in Christ the King.
Theme: We live with hope for eternal life when we remain faithful through every trial.
Promise: “By your perseverance, you will secure your lives.” (Lk 21:19)
Reflection:
The readings for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time remind us of the reality of the final days and the inevitable judgment that awaits all. They serve as both a warning and an exhortation – to remain steadfast in our faith, not to lose focus in our spiritual journey, and to live each day with hope in our hearts. Our Community Theme beautifully summarizes this message: We live with hope for eternal life when we remain faithful through every trial.
The First Reading gives us a glimpse of the final judgment – a day when the proud and evildoers will be punished, while the just will be rewarded with God’s eternal light. In the Second Reading, St. Paul advises the Thessalonians that the best way to prepare for Christ’s Second Coming is to live responsibly and faithfully, fulfilling one’s duties with diligence and devotion. Faithfulness in the ordinary tasks of life is itself a form of readiness for the Lord’s return.
The Gospel reminds us that the exact day and hour of the world’s end is unknown. Although signs such as wars, calamities, and famines may occur, Scripture is clear: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Mt 24:36) The Good News is that those who persevere in faith and remain steadfast to the Lord will be saved and will inherit eternal life.
Amid the trials, fears, and uncertainties in our world, we hold fast to this hope. The Second Coming of Christ is not a time for dread, but a moment of fulfillment and victory, for Jesus will present all creation to His Heavenly Father. At every Mass, we proclaim this faith: “We proclaim Your death, O Lord, and profess Your Resurrection, until You come again.”
We are indeed blessed to belong to a community of disciples serving the Lord. Our life in community constantly reminds us that “God is always with us,” through worship, Word Sharing Circles, and service in our outreaches. Revelation 2:10 affirms this: “Be faithful… and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.” Those who persevere in serving the Lord will receive the crown of eternal reward. Jesus’ assurance of God’s protective power encourages us to endure in faith, to trust not in our own strength, but in His grace, which is sufficient for us.
Our true preparation for eternal life is spiritual, not material. Each day, we must strive to do God’s will by living a life of selfless love, humble service, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. We recharge our spiritual strength through daily prayer, listening to the Lord, reading His Word, and examining our conscience. Seeking forgiveness and reconciling with others prepare our hearts to meet God at any moment.
We must remember that our possessions and even our lives are temporary. What God values most is our fidelity to the faith, especially amid trials and persecution. As Jesus reminds us: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9) Therefore, let us persevere in faith despite difficulties, holding on to His promise: “By your perseverance, you will secure your lives.” (Lk 21:19).
As we near the end of the liturgical year, let us pray for the grace to endure patiently through all trials, affirming our faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Prayer:
Our loving and gracious Savior, grant us a faith that stands firm amid disappointments and trials. Strengthen our hope in Your constant presence and unfailing love. In moments of weakness, remind us that as we remain faithful to You, we will secure our lives. Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in Your love—have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Joseph, pray for us. Amen.
Reflection Guide Questions:
1. What helps you stay hopeful when life feels overwhelming? Does your faith in God help you in your trials?
2. In what ways can you encourage others to persevere in faith and hope amid their own trials?
