Reflection:

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi – the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, our community is invited to reflect on this week’s theme: The Holy Spirit empowers us to believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This profound mystery is not merely an article of faith, but a divine truth revealed through the Holy Spirit, who opens our hearts and minds to believe in the living presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

When Jesus said at the Last Supper, “This is My Body, which will be given up for you… This is the chalice of My Blood” (Lk 22:19–20), He gave the world not just words, but Himself. These sacred words have echoed through centuries, shaping the faith of generations and transforming lives. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, and by the words spoken by the priest during the Holy Mass, the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1353), this moment, though outwardly simple, is a miracle of God’s grace. Christ becomes fully present: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. It is not a symbol; it is Jesus Himself, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

The priest’s invocation during the Eucharistic Prayer, “Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down Your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,” reminds us that it is by the Holy Spirit, not by human effort, that Christ becomes present among us. This sacred act deserves not just our attention, but our deepest reverence. If we truly believe this, how then do we approach Holy Communion?

Sadly, we sometimes fall into routine, fulfilling our Sunday obligation without reflecting on the mystery we participate in. Do we come in a state of grace, conscious that we are about to receive the Lord of heaven and earth? Or has our reception become mechanical and ordinary instead of extraordinary?

Our parish priest often reminds us, especially those serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC), of the immense dignity of this ministry. They are called not only to receive Christ but to carry Him to others, especially the sick and the elderly, who long for His presence in their moments of suffering.

Receiving the Eucharist should never be taken lightly. It is not just part of a ceremony; it is the source and summit of our spiritual life. Every time we approach the altar, it must be with awe, humility, and gratitude, for we are encountering Christ Himself.

How fitting it is that our community celebrates its 40th Foundation Anniversary on this solemn feast. It is both providential and deeply symbolic. We are being reminded that our mission flows from our communion with Christ. United with Him through the Eucharist, we are called to renew our commitment – to serve, to forgive, to love, and to witness to the Gospel in our daily lives. May our lives reflect the gentleness, kindness, and peace of Christ, so that others may come to know Him through us.

The Eucharist is a sacred encounter, a glimpse of eternity breaking into time. In Holy Communion, Christ dwells in us, and we in Him. In this divine exchange, we receive the strength and grace to live not just for ourselves, but for Him who gave Himself for us. And so, with joy and thanksgiving, we proclaim the mystery of our faith: “As often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes” (1 Cor 11:26).

Prayer:

Come, Holy Spirit. Prepare our hearts each day to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist with purity, humility, and deep thanksgiving. Transform us into the very Body of Christ we consume, living witnesses of Your love in the world. Use our lives as instruments of mercy, kindness, and peace, that others may be drawn to encounter Jesus and the Father through us. Glory to You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Mary, our Blessed Mother, intercede for us. St. Joseph, pray for us.
