LISTEN TO JESUS AS YOU WAIT ON THE LORD
Word Sharing Circle (WSC) Reflection Guide
Taken from March 16, 2025 (Cycle C, Yr. I) – 2nd Sunday of Lent
Community Word: God's boundless love brings salvation to mankind in Jesus Christ.
Theme: We receive God’s boundless love when we listen to Jesus and allow Him to transform our life
Promise: “He will change our lowly body to conform with His glorified body.” (Phil 3:21a)
Reflection:
We receive God’s boundless love when we listen to Jesus and allow Him to transform our lives. This is our theme for the Second Sunday of Lent when we read about Jesus's transfiguration. In the story, Jesus brings Peter, John, and James to the mountain to pray, and they hear God's voice saying, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him " (Luke 9:35).
In the 1st reading, we see how Abraham experiences a spiritual event that draws him into a closer relationship with God who promises him and his descendants a future homeland. In St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we are exhorted not to focus on earthly things, but on our citizenship in heaven. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus allows His three closest disciples to see His glory to assure them that He is the true light who will dispel all darkness and despair in His suffering and death on the cross. As we read and reflect on the glorious transfiguration of Jesus, we are likewise reminded that beyond our darkness and suffering in this world, we can share in the light of Jesus and that light with the world.
As we immerse ourselves in our 40-day Lenten journey, let us find the time to listen to Jesus. Through the discipline of prayer, reading, and reflection of the word, and receiving the Sacrament of reconciliation, we will surely be spiritually enriched and our hearts transformed. Most of all, we will experience God’s boundless love as we spend time reflecting on all that He has done for us, especially in the ministry, death, and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
We are all called to have a deeper relationship with God. Like Peter, John, and James, who at first couldn’t grasp the significance of seeing Jesus transfigured before their eyes, we need to spend moments of reflective prayer with our Lord, not only during the season of Lent but all the time. When we pray daily, we allow the Lord to speak to us and for us to listen to Him, showing us the way to the answers we are seeking. At times, we may have to “climb a mountain” and go away from the crowd, from our daily activities, and spend time in God's presence in solitude. We may have to go on a spiritual retreat or "silent" retreat to allow our body, mind, and spirit to be in closer and deeper communication with God. A quiet time with the Lord allows Him to speak to our soul and spirit and enable us to listen to Jesus.
The more we are willing to be with our Lord Jesus, the more we will experience what God has in store for us. All the more, we will understand the love that God has poured on us so that we will be able to proclaim with the psalmist, “I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord…wait for the Lord with courage; be stout-hearted, and wait for the Lord,” (Ps 27: 13-14). Waiting on the Lord is indeed a quality moment with Him. As we rest in God in the silence of our hearts, we may experience hearing His voice, guiding us, and leading us to Him. In these moments of experiencing His presence, we will begin to share in His holiness and perfect love. Jesus assures us that His love transforms, “He will change our lowly body to conform with His glorified body,” (Phil 3:21a).
Prayer:
Father God, You have called us into a closer relationship with You. Make us always aware of Your presence in our lives. Take away the hardness from our hearts that we may hear Your life-giving word that nourishes us daily. Open our spirit to Your grace and show us Your glory hidden in the routine of our daily life. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Increase our zeal for Your kingdom and instill a desire to live for Your greater glory as You transform us into Your likeness. Amen.
Reflection Guide Questions:
How much time do I spend praying and meditating, while seeking a deeper relationship with God?
Are you ready to let God transform you with His life-giving word? What are the hindrances that prevent you from listening to Jesus?
